We offer higher education scholarships.

At Sustainable Schools International we recognized the need to build a strong foundation of primary education especially for girls.

SSI provides scholarships for girls and indigent students to complete primary school and continue to secondary, and for girls, minority and gifted students gain access to high school and university in Phnom Penh.

Our scholarships do not encourage a brain drain from the community.

When a student receives a scholarship, the familiy members commit to volunteering at the primary school to make it  strong.

 

In turn, scholarship students make a 3-5 year commitment to return and use their education to serve their community.

In 2008 we offered our first scholarships to three boys and three girls,  they were the first in the village to attend high school. 

They are studying to become Khmer teachers, English teachers, a doctors and agricluture experts.

When promising students are given a scholarship and then fulfill their commitment to come back to work for a time in the community with their new skills and knowledge, the community really sees the multiple benefits from the education of its children.
