Vision and Mission
We Have A Vision...
We envision a future in which poor, rural and marginalized communities are able to support and sustain schools for their children. A vision in which these communities are empowered and enabled to build the educational foundation they need. A strong educational foundation is integral to communities' ability to strengthen economic growth and social justice, improve health and wellbeing and uphold their heritage and culture.
That Inspires Our Mission...
Sustainable Schools International works with poor, rural and marginalized communities to sustain their schools in ways that serve their children and support community needs.
To Accomplish Sustainable Objectives...
- We support local ownership and leadership through a school supporting committee. Local people guide the education process and set the community-driven goals that underpin their schools.
- We help sustain community-owned educational programs. We work with teachers so that they have the on-going educational, economic and emotional support they need to operate a functional educational institution.
- We are committed to helping children learn relevent life skills, as well as enhancing their educational curricula so that the richness and diversity of their culture and heritage is honored and preserved.
- We promote innovative and environmentally sustainable economic development within communities. We help mobilize communities to build the skills, tools, and economic capacity to use local resources sustainably to support their schools.
- We have a long-term commitment to promoting pro-rural and pro-poor educational policies, institutions and processes through participatory approaches and partnerships.
